The Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran, Syed Mahdi Nabizadah said that the growth and continuation of the age-old relations of Iran with the Indian sub-continent reached the peak of the written history so that it became the foundation of all cultural ties between the two ancient and civilized nations.
He was addressing the inaugural function of the three-day International Seminar on "Indo-Iranian Heritage: Importance and Relevance of Persian Language and Literature", organized by the Institute of Persian Research, Aligarh Muslim University.
Mr. Nabizada pointed out that the Persian poem and literature, introduced to many nations the values of the knowledge and spirituality and rejoiced the thinkers who during many centuries has been beloved of the kings and the great personalities and had been trained by the learned persons and writers to such an extent that no language other than Persian could garner such a large number of poets and men of letters familiar to the secrets of the sweetness of Persian.
He said that there had been age old strong commercial and cultural ties between the people living in the Shush region of southern Iran and the Sindh valley as the items found from the remains of Mohanjodaro, Takshila and Harappa are similar to those found from the Iranian Plateau, Tigris and Euphrates Valley.
The Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran mentioned that most of the remains of the Iranian culture and civilization in the Indian sub-continent pertains to the Persian and they are well preserved in the high number of books on history, vocabulary, persian, grammar, a variety of sciences and mystic walks.
Inaugurating the Seminar, Mr. Ali Akbar Ashari, Cultural Advisor to the Iranian President said that after the Iran revolution, his country has progressed tremendously in the field of education. He said more than five percent peoples of Iran are getting higher education and fifty thousand books published yearly and more than two thousand libraries were established to provide better knowledge.
Delivering the keynote address Dr. Moosa Raza, Chairman, Southern India, Educational Trust, Chennai said that the very purpose of the existence of a nation is not merely to prosper materially but to safeguard all the stands of culture that go to make it what it is.
Persian language and literature has been one of those strong currents like yeast in bread flour that permeates what we call Indian culture. He said that when a culture dies, a nation dies, a country dies. For a nation's identity is its culture, its language, its art, its architecture and its philosophy of life.
In his presidential remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis assured the delegates to provide all types of support and partnership. He said that the Department of Persian of Aligarh Muslim University is doing excellent work in the field of teaching and research.
Prof. Azarmi Dukht Safavi, Director, Institute of Persian Research highlighted the objectives of the Seminar and said a large number of delegates from all parts of India and abroad are participating in the three day deliberations.
She hoped that a common heritage between Iran and India would be strengthened further through implementing suitable programmes in the Universities and the scientific and research centres all over the Indian Subcontinent.
Prof. Mahdi Mohaghegh, Director, Cultural Heritage Foundation, Iran and Mr. Karim Najafi Barzigar, Cultural Counselor, Iran also addressed. Professor Mohd. Asif Naim Siddiqui, Chairman, Department of Persian proposed a vote of thanks.
