Dr. Shah Alam, Lecturer in the Department of Psychology, AMU, Aligarh has been
awarded the Best Book Award 2008 by Governing Council of Pondicherry Psychology
Association, Pondicherry for his book entitled “Basics of Guidance and Counseling”
published by Global Vision Publishing House, New Delhi. The award was instituted by

Prof. B. Vishwanathan of Annamalai University of Tamil Nadu. The award was
presented to Dr. Shah Alam by Justice David Annaswami at the inaugural session of the
National Conference on School Psychology organized by Pondicherry Psychology
Association, Pondicherry in collaboration with Indian Academy of Applied Psychology,
Madras Psychology Society and Pavanthar Teachers’ Training Institute, Pondicherry. The
award consisted of a memento, a shawl, cash prize and a certificate.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shah Alam said, “There is an urgent need to remove
the established misconceptions and misunderstandings regarding the scientific concept of
guidance and counseling in the field of psychology. The book is of utmost importance for
all including professionals, students and non professionals, who have a zest for acquiring
knowledge and using it for providing healthy care to their children”. He also said that the
book will help people in understanding various problems of children such as addiction,
low self confidence, family problems, school level problems etc.
