Challenges and Future of Indian Muslims

*ALIGARH 07-03-209:* The Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC), Aligarh &
Intellectuals' Forum for Secular Democracy & Social Justice (IFSDSJ)
organized an interactive session on "Challenges and Future of Indian
Muslims" on March 7, 2009, at Assembly Hall, Women's Polytechnic, Aligarh
Muslim University, Aligrah.

Dr. K. Rahman Khan, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, graced the occasion as the
Chief Guest and Key Speaker.

Addressing on the occasion, *Dr. K. Rahman Khan*, Deputy Chairman, Rajya
Sabha said, "Indian Muslims are facing a lot of challenges. But these
challenges can be fought by the positive approach. Muslims are needed to
develop the self-confidence and they should move forward by fighting the
challenges, then Muslims and India can progress." "Muslims have to come out
from minority syndrome and they have to empower themselves. And it can only
be achieved by the education" Dr. K. Rahman Khan said. He further said,
"Today, our political as well as religious leadership has lost the
accountability and it has generated the discrimination in the society. We
don't know our problems and don't have any agenda." He stated that the
accountability and the discrimination are challenges for us. Appreciating
the efforts of MBMC to awaken the Muslim community, Dr. K. Rahman Khan said,
"Awareness is the basic need which should prevail in Muslim society. I want
that Muslims should be more educated and aware." On the Report of Sachar
Committee, he said, "First time UPA Government took such a historical step.
The government has implemented seventeen recommendations of the committee.
In the result of this, at least eight lakh Muslim students are getting
scholarship." He felt the need of Muslim NGOs which can work at grass-root
level. In the reply of a question, he said that I am here to win the
confidence of the students of AMU.

*Jasim Mohammad*, President, the MBMC, said, "Not only education,
empowerment and political awareness are challenges for Muslims but the
security is also a great challenge for them. The UPA government established
the Ministry of Minority Affairs but Muslims are still living under distress
conditions as the Report of Sachar Committee states that Muslims are ten
times backward than other backward communities. There is a need to take
positive steps."

*Prof. Razaullah Khan*, Patron MBMC & Chairman, D/o Civil Engineering, AMU,
recalled Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and said, "Once again there is a need to revive
the Aligarh Movement. He also said, "Without the educational development of
Indian Muslims, they can not empower."

*Prof. Shamim Ahmad*, President, IFSDSJ, said, "Muslims should actively
participate in the mainstream politics of India, then they can empower." He
also said, "Muslims should be given equal rights as other communities of
India have been getting."

*Dr. Mohammad Shahid*, Former Honorary Secretary, AMU Teachers' Association,
said, "Problems of Muslims can be categorized into three parts; Identity,
Security, Equality. Muslims are facing these problems. Until the government
will not take any positive step, Muslim can not progress."

Presiding over the session, *Feroz A. Khan*, Social Activist, said, "Only
education can uplift the Muslims."

*Mohsin Raza Khan*, Journalist, said, "After 62 years of Indian independence
Muslims have been lagging behind in all fields. So, they should be given
reservation in government jobs and institutions according to their
population."
