Loyola University Chicago to host its first academic and cultural conference

Club Hindi-Urdu at Loyola University Chicago is proud to host its first academic and cultural conference with the mission to bring together the Indian and Pakistani Community in the Chicago land area. In the light of the recent disharmony in South Asia following the Mumbai attacks, we hope to send out a message of peace and understanding through organizing this conference to reflect on our shared history and culture.

Conference Schedule:

4:45 pm: Conference Inauguration by Fr. Michael J. Garanzini

5:00 pm: Speech by Pakistani Consul General in Chicago, Dr. Aman Rashid

5:30 pm: Speech by Indian Consul General in Chicago, Mr. Ashok Kr. Attri

6:00 pm: Panel Discussion- Understanding the Politics of Language, Race and Culture of South Asia

Speakers:

Dr. Abdul Jamil Khan (New York) - "Urdu/Hindi an artificial Divide: African Heritage, Mesopotamian Roots, Indian Culture and British Colonialism"

Pritika Chowdhry (Madison) - "What the body Remembers: Partition, memory and ritual"

Dr. Mujahid Ghazi (Chicago) - "Asian Broadcasting network: bringing the people together in Chicago!"

7:30 pm: Tasnuva Toomey (Loyola alumna): Language of Music in Movies

8:30pm: Mushaira – Urdu/Hindi poets from Chicago (names to be announced soon)

9:30 Dinner

Dr. Abdul Jamil Khan, an important member of AAA, NY will give his talk on his book "Urdu/Hindi an artificial Divide: African Heritage, Mesopotamian Roots, Indian Culture and British Colonialism" for promoting unity on this occasion.

It is an opportunity for AMU alumni to attend this conference for promoting Unity amongst the south Asian community of greater Chicago.
