ALIGARH, June 10: Prof. Wasim Ahmad of the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University has been selected as ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLAR to carry out research and teaching assignment with Erasmus Mundus Masters course "European Master of Science in Nematology" funded by European Union. The European Master of Science in Nematology is a very prestigious programme jointly organized by University of Gent, Belgium; Universitat Bielefeld, Germany; Universidad de Jaen, Spain and Universidade de Evora, Portugal. In additional to European faculty, during each Academic session one scholar is invited from outside Europe for a three months period to give lectures and supervise the dissertation work of the students. It is an honor for Prof. Ahmad and also to Aligarh Muslim University that he has been invited as an Erasmus Mundus Scholar for their 2009-2011 programme. He is the first Indian or rather a first Asian to have been selected for this prestigious assignment.
Prof. Ahmad is a world renowned nematologist and have earlier received several prestigious fellowships such as Royal Society visiting fellowship, UK; Dutches Forshungeminshaft visiting Fellwoship, Germany; JSPS Invititaion Fellowship, Japan; KOSEFF visiting Fellowship, South Korea; Third-World Academy of Sciences, SouthSouth Fellowship; Chinese Academy of Sciences Visiting Fellowship, China; Raffles Museum Visiting Fellowship of the National University of Singapore and INBio visiting Fellowship of Costa Rica. He has research collaborations with British, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese Scientists and have published more than 150 research papers in International Journals of repute. He is a regular reviewer of papers published in world reputed Nematology journal and is on the editorial board of Journal of Nematode Morphology and Systematics, published from Spain. Dr. Ahmad is a Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
