CSIR-Nehru Postdoc fellowship scheme By Meraj A Khan

Hello friends, As a very welcome step, CSIR has initiated a centrally-instituted postdoc fellowship. May I remind that unlike JRFs and SRFs (CSIR, UGC, DBT and ICMR) who have an even scholarship scale all through, postdoc fellowships are mostly decided by the concerned institute or the RA (research associate) scale or by the sanctioned funds available with the concerned scientist. Not to mention the lure of the huge difference in the postdoc fellowships available in US and Europe. Enter the CSIR-Nehru Postdoc fellowship scheme - *eligibility - Any fresh phd within a year or those who hv submitted thesis (~20% of seats open fr foreign nationals) *tenure - 2+1 years *fellowship - 35,000 + HRA. Also a contingency grant of Rs. 3.0 lac p.a (thts cool!) *selection - Intrerview of short-listed candidates *number of fellowships available - 100 per year *place - CSIR labs across the country The last date for apps. in the inaugral year is 13th July '09.
