Awardees With The Vice Chancellor Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, AMU Aligarh

The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis felicitated about 140 eminent teachers, research scholars and students who brought laurels to the institution on the occasion of Republic Day celebrations. Mr. Shazi Shakeel of Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit was given certificate of honour as "Most Active Research Scholar" for his outstanding contributions towards research activities, while Professor Akhtar Haseeb, Chairman, department of Plant Protection in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences was awarded the certificate of honour as "Most Active Teacher". Prof. Haseeb has twenty research paper to his credit published during 2009 and has participated in two international and four national conferences.
Professor Mohammad Irfan, Department of Physics was felicitated for securing the largest project fund of Rs. 208.40 Lakhs from DST on ALICE-operation and Utilization and Grid Computing.
Ms. Aysha Mubeen, MBBS (Final) was honoured for receiving Gold Medal highest Gold Medals. The University also felicitated Ms. Manisha Sharma, Ghazal Salahuddin, Sahila Salahuddin and Mr. Abdul Aziz, N.P. for remarkable achievement of 100% attendance in classrooms.
Professor Shamim Jairajpuri, Prof. Athar Siddiqui, Prof. A. M. K. Shahryar, Prof. A. K. Qasmi, Prof. Syed Mohammad Amin, Dr. Asad Ali Khursheed, Prof. M. Shabbir, Prof. Asghar Abbas, Prof. Prabhat Kumar, Dr. Shah Alam, Dr. Riaz Ahmad, Dr. Syed Moeid Ahmad, Dr. Mohd. Kaleemuddin, Dr. Shahab Fazal Dr. Mohd. Ayaz, Dr. Mohd. Hayat and Dr. Asadullah Khan were awarded Certificate of Merit for their outstanding contributions.
Dr. Rahat Abrar, Public Relations Officer was awarded Best Employee of the Year Award in the Non-teaching staff category. Dr. Fatima Shujatullah of Microbiology, Dr. Yasir Hasan Siddiqui, Zoology, Syed Shabih Hasan, Computer Engineering, Dr. Naseem Ahmad, Botany and Dr. Parveen Kumar were honoured with "Young Scientist Award".
Seven students who were selected in Central Civil Services and 45 boys and girls who were selected in IITs were also felicitated.
About forty students of literary, cultural and sports activities were presented with mementoes in recognition of outstanding contribution to co-curricular activities during 2009.
In his presidential address, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis said that AMU is celebrating Republic Day as a mark of recognizing the talents of students and teachers for their outstanding contribution in their respective field. He appealed to staff and students to gain knowledge because knowledge is a power and knowledge comes from teachers and books. He urged the students to read the books. Prof. Azis said that students need motivation and guidance so they will excel in their fields.
In his welcome address, Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel, Registrar of the University said that Merit Evening Award Ceremony to felicitate the teachers, non-teaching employees and students who have brought laurels to the University, was initiated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis two years back for motivating the students for bringing the best out of them for the academic, cultural, literary and sporting excellence. The faculty members are getting large funded projects from various agencies of repute. As a result the AMU rose to the 8th position among Indian universities.
He said the result of this merit evening is more amazing and pronouncing among the students. Last year we had only one student with 100% attendance but the number has increased five times now. The entire credit goes to the Vice Chancellor who has brought this revolutionary change by motivating and promoting University staff and students through introduction of this kind of programmes.
On this occasion, Dr. P. V. Jaganmohan, Commissioner, Aligarh Division, Professor Ziauddin Khairoowala, Dean Faculty of Commerce and Prof. M. Zubair Khan, Dean, Faculty of Science also addressed the Merit Evening Awards ceremony.
Prof. N. A. K. Durrani, Media Advisor and Convener of the Programme announced the list of awardees. Prof. Ainul Haque, Dean Students' Welfare proposed a vote of thanks and Dr. Shakeel Samdani conducted the programme.
