Mrs. Sheila Dixit Visits Women's College Aligarh, Still Cherishes Her Meeting With Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah - Papa Mian

Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. Sheila Dixit who was a chief guest on the founder's day celebration at Women's College of the Aligarh Muslim University described her visit to this institution a sentimental journey because of her nostalgic memories of this place.

She mentioned with great pride how she still cherishes her brief meeting with Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the founder of this College when her late husband was the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Khair in Aligarh District.

Mrs. Dixit focused on skill based learning in the institutions for female component. She appreciated Aligarh Muslim University as young and vibrant and highlighted the need to open a separate department for environment and ecology learning foreseeing challenges ahead in the world.

Mrs. Sheila Dixit said that she is the product of Delhi University but like Aligarh Muslim University for its culture and beautiful gardens and heritage buildings.

She gave awards to the meritorious students of the College. Ms. Fatima Javed of English (main) received most coveted Papa Mian Padma Bhushan Award for over all outstanding performance in academic and co-curricular activities.

In his presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis said that this institution has decided to establish five special centres in different parts of the country to meet the challenging needs of the marginalized and excluded social class and would replicate the AMU model in all its Centres.

Prof. Azis said AMU means brilliant dedicated persons and we need institution builders to create a new environment.

He said that the University has made rapid progress and succeeded in providing ICT facilities to all its staff and students and created information highway in their finger tip. A Digital Resource Centre was also established at Maulana Azad Library of the University.

Earlier welcoming the guests, Prof. Bilquis Naseem Waris, Principal of the Women?s College said that on the eve of founder's day, we also celebrate the achievements of the young minds today.

She said that this College now consists of 95 teaching faculty, 75 non-teaching staff and 2563 students including overseas students on the rolls.

She said that the students of this College have always been great achievers be it in academic and other co-curricular activities. Ms. Ameena Arif, a students of B. Sc. (Biochemistry) gained the top position among all the six faculties, securing the highest percentage of marks, with an aggregate of 89.9% during the last session.

Prof. Bilquees highlighted the achievements of teachers and pointed out that 31 teachers participated in various national and international conferences, workshops and symposia.

On this occasion, Mrs Sheila Dixit, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis and Prof. Zakia Ather Siddiqui, Secretary, female Education Association presented the awards to Aiman Siddiqui, Ilma and Saeeda.

Students presented group songs. Dr. Romana Siddiqui conducted the programme.

Easy Tips To An Organized Hostel Room

The easiest one, which I don't recommend, is to stick a witty poster ( sporting Denis etc.) on the door announcing your highly disorganized nature. But this is just a blatant excuse of the callousness and will keep you away from the real joy of an organized room. Organizing helps create a conducive environment to study and helps in time management for students.

Try a little bit everyday. Try to do the job of removing cluttering a little bit every day. If you keep waiting for the weekend, the things get messed up so badly that you may leave for the next weekend only to realize that the situation is even worse now. When returning from classes put the bags, copies and pens in their respective places at the very moment. If a vehicle has been used the keys should be kept in the most accessible place to avoid time loss when you have to start a trip again.

Make your bed every day: The habit of making your bed, bedsheets and blankets properly folded before leaving for the classes. It is bound to give you a soothing feeling when you return back tired.

When buying for racks other utilities for the table try to get a multipurpose rack. One single space will provide for keeping many of the things at an accessible place. Don't pile up junk receipts. Keep necessary and warranty related bills and warranty cards in a separate folder.

Avoid excessive shopping especially for clothes. Think realistically. Do you need more. Because the older ones keep lying and just gobble up the already limited space in the hostel shelves.

Try these simple steps and you will feel better, every day studying and relaxing in an organized and clean environment.

AMU Organised National Integration Marathon Race

ALIGARH January 24: The Hiking and Mountaineering Club of the University Games Committee, Aligarh Muslim University today organized National Integration Marathon Race as part of the Republic Day Celebrations – 2010. About six hundred students of various schools and colleges of Aligarh District participated in the race.

AMU Registrar Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel was the Chief Guest and distributed the prizes to the winners.

Prof. Ainul Haq, Dean, Students’ Welfare and Prof. M. Zubair Khan, Proctor of the University graced the prize distribution function.

Dr. Shadab Khurshid, President, Hiking & Mountaineering Club said that for the first time more than six hundred boys and girls from different educational institutions of Aligarh District participated in the four kilometer and eight kilometer race starting from Willingdon Cricket Pavilion.

Mohd. Hasan, Captain of the Club proposed a vote of thanks. A large number of students and staff witnessed the prize distribution ceremony at Football Ground of the University.

How To Get Instant Alerts From AMU Sites Which Do Not Publish An RSS Feed

Many of us need instant updates from important AMU sites e.g. Controller Exams. This is needed to get first hand information about the announcement of availability of forms or dates of examinations, you cant afford to miss. Like many other sites it does not have an RSS feed so instant updates seem far fetched.
Google announced a feature in its Google reader which allows you to get instant information about any change in the site. So if you are the one who needs to track instant information as soon as the new information is posted you can benmefit from this feature. I am writing the method below.

Method

Login to Google reader. Upper left corner shows a button "Add A Subscription". Click and enter the URL of the required site in the text  box. You can add any number of sites in this manner.

Shahrukh Khan, Javed Akhtar And Shabana Azmi Visit Postponed

The Aligarh Muslim University has decided to postpone the visit of cine-star Shahrukh Khan scheduled for January 23, 2010 due to inclement cold and fog and the predictions of very bad weather in the next two days.
