PROF. QAZI ABDUS SATTAR RELEASES BOOK OF DR. ARIFUL ISLAM


ALIGARH, March 4: At an impressive ceremony at the ARTS FACULTY LOUNGE, Padma Shri Professor Qazi Abdus Sattar released Dr. Ariful Isam's (Associate Professor in Statistics) book 'SIR SYED, AZAD AUR HINDUSTANI MUSALMAN'. Speaking despite acute illness, he hailed the book as original research and called for further exploration into the lives of Maulana Azad and Sir Syed Ahmad.

He congratulated the author for bringing into "light many hidden facts of Maulana Azad's life based on original documents like Al Hilal and Al Bilagh".

Maulana Sultan Ahmad Islahi, a well known Islamic scholar, also congratulated the author and said that "this is the first documentary evidence into the overlooked aspects of lives of Azad and Sir Syed during the past 100 years. People have accepted author's ability as a researcher. The book should be included in the curriculum of the university".

Dr. Gulfishan Israr, Associate Professor in History Department, speaking at the occasion said "If one wants to learn about Muslim political leaders contribution or otherwise towards Indian Muslims, he has to read this book".

Dr. Mohd. Shahid, former secretary AMU Teachers Association, hailed the book as "eye opener based on hard facts".

Dr.Mohibbul Haq, lecturer in Political Science, while conducting the programme, referred to Maulna Azad's AMU Act of 1952, which became the basis of repeal of Minority Character in the famous Aziz Pasha case.

In the end, Dr. Talat Feroz, who published the book with the financial assistance from USA based AMU alumnus, Dr. Frank Fakhrul Islam told the story of the publication and thanked the audience.

Loyola University Chicago to host its first academic and cultural conference

Club Hindi-Urdu at Loyola University Chicago is proud to host its first academic and cultural conference with the mission to bring together the Indian and Pakistani Community in the Chicago land area. In the light of the recent disharmony in South Asia following the Mumbai attacks, we hope to send out a message of peace and understanding through organizing this conference to reflect on our shared history and culture.

Dr. Abdul Jamil Khan, an important member of AAA, NY will give his talk on his book "Urdu/Hindi an artificial Divide: African Heritage, Mesopotamian Roots, Indian Culture and British Colonialism" for promoting unity on this occasion.

It is an opportunity for AMU alumni to attend this conference for promoting Unity amongst the south Asian community of greater Chicago.

Lecture by Prof. Yusuf Amin - Character and Scope of Modern Science implications for Islamic Civilization

*ALIGARH**, March 3:* Prof. Yusuf Amin while delivering lecture at
Department of Islamic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University on "Character and
Scope of Modern Science implications for Islamic Civilization" said that
modern science should be absorbed by the Eastern civilization in a recasted
manner with ethical values guiding both the selected of research topics and
the practical application of scientific finding. He further said that the
new model of science may also help the west also with itself wants to give a
new shape to science so that grave physical problems like global warming and
cultural problems like loss of meaning and ethical sense may be avoided.

Dr. Zaki Kirmani in his presidential address said that although it may not
say so explicitly but Western Modern Science inculcates Materialism and
rejection of supra-human guidance. He said that scholars are youths should
set-up institution for this type of research. The Conference was conducted
by Dr. Abdul Majeed Khan. Earlier, Chairman, Department of Islamic Studies,
Dr. Zafarul Islam welcomed the guests. It was attended by post graduate and
doctoral students and senior teachers and scholars from various departments
of the university.
