From Drop Box

ALIGARH, March 7: Mr. K. Rahman Khan, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha today made a strong plea for relaunching the Aligarh movement for the empowerment of the Muslims. The movement needs to be launched with vigour in the backdrop of the Sachar Committee report, he said while inaugurating a two-day national seminar on 'Minority Education in India: Issues of Access, Equity and Inclusion' here at Kennedy Auditorium organized by the Centre for Promotion of Educational and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India, Aligarh Muslim University.

He urged the minority community to take new initiatives to address the vital issue of their educational backwardness. Muslims should not repeat the mistake of always seeking help from different quarters and crave for sympathy. They have to stick to the principle of self help if they want to change their destiny.

He also urged the Muslims to draw an agenda for the next ten years to attain self-reliance in education and serve the country through education. Muslims should plan to establish at east one University in each state in the next ten years. They should also plan towards achieving excellence in our educational institutions.

He also suggested establishing a large network of secondary schools of excellence in addition to the Government schools, i.e., at least one school for every 10,000 families. We should plan and establish skill development centers, polytechnics and technical institutions all over the country.

Mr. Khan pointed out that the Muslim community in India is not helpless. We have the resources, we have the abilities and expertise, what we lack is unity. The Muslim Community is a vibrant community and hardworking and contributing significantly for the country's GDP growth and its contribution to GDP saving is around 10% of the total GDP savings of the country, which will be around 33 billion USD.

Justice M.S.A. Siddiqui, Chairman, National Commission for Minorities Educational Institutions said that the constitution of India has special provision of minority and Article 30 recognizes minorities' right to education. Speaking as a guest of honour at the Seminar he urged the Muslims to pay more attention to professional education if they want to redeem their future. "If any minority institution finds any difficulty in getting affiliation and no objection certificate from the states it can approach the Commission.

Noted Urdu Journalist and Member of Parliament Mr. Ahmad Saeed Malihabadi while delivering the felicitation address said that Aligarh has played a dynamic role in propagating education among Muslim minority and it will continue to provide intellectual leadership to Muslims across the country.

Delivering the Presidential Address Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University said that AMU strives for building up a class synergy in the minorities across the country. Sir Syed's vision and mission has become very relevant today, he said. He asked the students of Aligarh Muslim University to set up educational institutions. Prof. Azis said that Muslims should also take concrete steps in utilizing 4000 crores of rupees which is being spent by the Central Government in the Muslim dominated districts.

"The revelation of the Sachar Committee reminds that we cannot wait any longer for an education revolution to occur among Muslims", he concluded.

Welcoming the guests, Dr. Abdul Waheed, Director, Center for Promotion of Educational and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India (CEPECAMI), said that deliberations of the Seminar would set the agenda for minority education.

Professor M. Amanullah Khan extended the vote of thanks and Dr. Shakeel Samdani conducted the programme.

Indian Society enjoys a unique reputation for peaceful co-existence. ---- India is a fellowship of faiths in which full freedom of religion has been guaranteed by the Indian Constitution says Mr. H.R. Bhardwaj at AMU.

Aligarh March 7: Mr. H.R. Bhardwaj, Union Minister of Law and Justice stated that India is a fellowship of faiths in which full freedom of religion has been guaranteed by the Constitution. Matters concerning or relating to religion are very sensitive and the state cannot interfere in these matters.

He was delivering Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Lecture on 'Personal Laws and Uniform Civil Code: Constitutionality, Reality and Legitimacy' at the Aligarh Muslim University here today. The lecture was organized by Dr. Ambedkar Chair of Legal Studies and Research, Department of Law of the University.

Union Minister of Law and Justice, Mr. Bhardwaj said that the Indian Society enjoys a unique reputation for peaceful co-existence. It has allowed good principals of all religions and faiths. They have been assimilated in our cultural and national ethos and we have a common heritage. Indian Unity in diversity has surprised many, but this unity has been achieved by compassion and tolerance.

Mr. Bhardwaj mentioned that uniformity in personal laws is rare and difficult in countries which have allowed freedom of religions, faith and conscience. In pluralistic societies such changes have been brought about by the concerned sections of the society after a consensus is achieved within that section. It cannot be brought about by pressure of other groups of the society. This is bound to be counter productive and said that the Courts of our country must realize these difficulties and also that limitation of social reform is a policy matter which the Courts do not go into.

Referring the Constitutional Assembly Debates, Bhardwaj said that one of the most important observation made during the debate is that how it would be possible to make a law against the sentiments of minority communities in the face of multiple religious and cultural ethic groups which are citizens of India.

Paying tribute to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, founder of Aligarh Muslim University, Bhardwaj said that Sir Syed was one of the most dynamic and splendid personality of the nineteenth century. He stood firmly against conservation, inertia and obscurantism. His aim in founding the MAO College which later on emerged as the Aligarh Muslim University, was to establish a forum for scientific attitude and to hold Indians, particularly the Muslims, to come out of their out dated grooves and march to the new age of science and enquiry with confidence.

In his presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor P.K. Abdul Azis said that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the most dynamic personality and he was the Chairperson of secularism and social justice. He said that the concept of Islam is based on equality and Mughal rulers of this country promoted the equality to every citizen without caste, creed and religion.

Earlier in his welcome address, Professor M. Shabbir, Programme Director of Dr Ambedkar Memorial lecture said that today's commemorative lecture is organized to remember the noble deeds and contribution of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who was world known social reformer, law maker, fighter for the oppressed and subjugated segments of the Indian society and champion for human rights.

He said that law teaching at this institution was introduced in 1891, and the founder of AMU was impressed by legal education as prevalent in British Universities, especially on the model of Oxford and Cambridge.

Prof. M. Shabbir said that Professor Lawrence and his associates of George Washington Law School being impressed by law teaching and research in the area of Islamic Commercial Law, Islamic Banking System, Islamic Criminal Law and Torts, etc., have signed MoU for exchange programme of teachers and students.

Justice S. Saghir Ahmad, Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India also addressed the function as a Guest of Honour. Prof. I.A. Khan, Dean, Faculty of Law presented a brief profile of the Dr. Ambedkar Chair of Legal Studies and Research. University Registrar, Professor V.K. Abdul Jaleel proposed the Vote of Thanks.

On this occasion, a book on "Human Rights in 21st century edited by Professor M. Shabbir, released by the Minister of Law". Ambedkar Journal 'Quest for Truth' was released by the AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor P.K. Abdul Azis.

HOLD ON ROPE OF ALLAH- The Quran-al-Kareem -SURA'S INTRODUCTION (82)

Assalamualaikum

82- AL INFITAR (Introduction-1)

Name

It is derived from the word infatarat in the first verse. Infitar is an infinitive which means to burst or split asunder, thereby implying that it is the Surah in which the splitting asunder of the sky has been mentioned.

Period of Revelation

This Surah and the Surah At-Takwir closely resemble each other in their subject matter. This shows that both were sent down in about the same period.

The subject matter and the style clearly show that it is one of the earliest Surahs to be revealed at Makkah.

Theme and Subject Matter

Its theme is the Hereafter. According to a tradition related in Musnad Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn al-Mundhir, Tabarani, Hakim and Ibn Marduyah, on the authority of Hadrat Abdullah bin Umar, the Holy Messenger (upon whom be peace) said: "The one who wants that he should see the Resurrection Day as one would see it with one's eyes, should read Surah At-Takwir, Surah Al-Infitar and Surah Al-Inshiqaq".

In this Surah first the Resurrection Day has been described and it is said that when it occurs, every person will see whatever he has done in the world. After this, man has been asked to ponder the question: "O man, what has deluded you into thinking that the God, Who brought you into being and by Whose favor and bounty you possess the finest body, limbs and features among all creatures, is only bountiful and not just? His being bountiful and generous does not mean that you should become fearless of His justice."Then, man has been warned, so as to say: "Do not remain involved in any misunderstanding. Your complete record is being prepared. There are trustworthy writers who are writing down whatever you do." In conclusion, it has been forcefully stated that the Day of Resurrection will surely take place when the righteous shall enjoy every kind of bliss in Paradise and the wicked shall be punished in Hell. On that day no one shall avail anyone anything. All powers of judgment shall be with Allah.

OUR INSPIRATION
