Dr. Abdul Qaiyyum awarded Johnson & Johnson Fellowship

Dr. Abdul Qaiyyum Khan, lecturer, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, JNMC,
AMU has been awarded the prestigious Johnson & Johnson Fellowship by the Indian
Orthopaedic Association. Prof. S. C. Goel, President of Indian Orthopaedic Association

awarded the certificate of completion of fellowship at the inaugural function of the 53rd
Annual Conference of Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOACON-2008) at Bangalore.
This is the most prestigious Inland Fellowship of Indian Orthopaedic Association
given every year to two young orthopaedic surgeons from teaching stream on the basis of
their academic achievements.
Prof. M. K. A. Sherwani, Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery was the
first orthopaedic surgeon of this University to receive this prestigious fellowship. During
the period of fellowship Dr. Khan visited various centres of orthopaedic excellence in
Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Patna, Varanasi and New Delhi and gained
knowledge of attitudes and philosophy of work including academic and orthopaedic
skills. Dr. Khan is presently concentrating on the orthopaedic oncology and the team of
Prof. M. K. A. Sherwani and Dr. Abdul Qaiyyum Khan has successfully performed the
first megaprosthetic knee and hip replacement in Uttar Pradesh for bone tumors. Since
then a number of bone tumor patients have been benefited from different parts of the
country from the megaprosthetic replacement surgery.
