Lok Sabha Election 2009

Ref. No. 09/MBMC/P/98

Dated: 27. 02. 2009

Press Release

Even after sixty two years of Indian Independence, Muslim minority has been legged behind. To take steps forward to get rid of Muslim backwardness and victimization, the Millat Bedari Muhim Committee [MBMC], Aligarh launched a movement and consolidated secular forces in 2004 Lok Sabha election. UPA government was the result of this movement. But the condition of the community is not much better than before.

Once again the MBMC has started a campaign to consolidate the secular forces and has prepared a national level charter of demands of Muslims, which is being presented to all secular parties of India. One of such efforts was a meeting of teachers, students and scholars of Aligarh Muslim University and intellectuals with Mr. Amar Singh, National General Secretary of Samajwadi Party on 23rd February, 2009 at his residence in 27, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi.

But after the media coverage of this high level meeting, it has been seen that the message of the meeting is being made wrong.

Jasim Mohammad, President MBMC, said that the message of the meeting with Amar Singh has taken a wrong shape. Our purpose of the meeting was to put up the problems and demands of Muslim community in front of Samajwadi Party and to consolidate the secular forces. AMU community has always been supported all secular forces who are working for the unity of the nation and development of India. As in 2004 we worked to unite the secular forces and secular vote, this year also, we will not only support but also campaign for those secular parties who will fulfill the promises of Muslim community.

Jasim Mohammad criticized the recent development of few Muslims who are making new fronts at this crucial juncture when India has to decide its future. He said, "Why do these self-minded people become active at the time of election? Why do not they work during the tenure of the government? By such activities they indirectly support the communal and fascist forces like BJP and RSS."

He also informed that the MBMC is also trying to seek appointment from other secular political parties to raise the issues and demand of Muslim community.
