ALIGARH, March 20: A cultural programme of foreign students of AMU was organized by the Advisor, Foreign Students. Lt. Gen. Andi M. Ghalib, Ambassador of Indonesia and Mr. Mustapha Ahmed Mohammed Noman, Ambassador of Yemen were the Guests of Honor.

Mr. Andi M. Ghalib, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia said that Aligarh Muslim University is among the best universities in India. Every year many of Indonesian students prefer Aligarh Muslim University as the first institution of their choice for higher studies. He hoped that these students will be the future leaders of Indonesia and we would be grateful that our leaders have had the best education in your esteemed university.

Mr. Ghalib said that Indonesia and the relationship between India would serve the long term interests enhancing all-round cooperation and contribution to regional and global peace and stability.

Mr. Ghalib said that today's cultural programme is indeed a very important event to rebound our long cultural connection as well as to build and promote mutual understanding and friendship among the students from different countries through their culture.

Mr. Mustapha Ahmed Mohammed Noman, Ambassador of Yemen paid rich tribute to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, founder of this great seat of learning and pointed out that he opened its doors to all without any discrimination on the ground of caste, creed or religion and he felt that education has not religion.

In his Presidential Address, AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor P.K. Abdul Azis said that we are trying of our best to attract foreign students at AMU. We are also planning to provide better accommodation to these foreign students and to create a new brand image of the University.

Earlier, Professor Muzaffar A Siddiqui, Advisor, Foreign Students in his welcome address said that AMU is reviving one of its old tradition of bringing together the students from abroad and hoped that such events not only help the University regain its past glory but shall touch the new heights.

Professor Siddiqui said that AMU needs an International Hostel with a capacity of 400 to 500 students with an exclusive wing for foreign students with families. A separate hostel for girl students along with a block of twelve transit houses located in the Medical Colony should be provided at the University campus.

Students from Iran, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Mauritius and Thailand presented the various aspects of their country through PowerPoint presentation.

University Registrar, Professor V.K. Abdul Jaleel proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Kaleemuddin Ahmad conducted the programme.
