The Department of Applied Geosciences is seeking to fill vacancies in the broad fields of structural geology and tectonics, hydrogeology, petrophysics, applied geophysics, and geochemistry, with field-based, experimental and theoretical approaches.

Applicants are expected to show a proven track record as excellent educators at undergraduate and higher level, and to have research interests broadly related to petroleum geosciences, applied hydrogeology or economic geology.

GUtech offers an international and dynamic environment with an extensive research network provided by RWTH Aachen University. A committee comprising of RWTH academic staff will select the top applicants and nominate them for faculty positions at GUtech. The employer will be the German University of Technology in Oman.

The appointment is initially for 4 years and renewable, dependent on a positive performance review. The salary is internationally competitive. Offers are subject to receiving Omani teaching and labour permits, which will be arranged by the University. The successful candidates are expected to take up employment between July-October 2009.

Your Duties:

Your duties will include teaching undergraduate courses and contribute to the development of postgraduate courses at MSc-/PhD-level in consultation with the Head of Department and close collaboration with the Professors at RWTH Aachen University. The language of instruction at GUtech is English. Emphasis will be given to the candidates' potential to develop their own externally funded research programmes.

Your Profile:

Full Professor

Applicants must hold a PhD degree, more than 6 years of teaching and research experience, or a habilitation or equivalent work experience. Candidates are expected to be outstanding, internationally recognised researchers and exceptional educators. There should be evidence that the candidate excels at all levels of teaching including under- and post-graduate courses as well as thesis supervision.

Associate Professor

Applicants must hold a PhD degree and up to 6 or more years of teaching and research experience, or a habilitation or equivalent work experience. Candidates are expected to be internationally recognised researchers and successful educators. There should be evidence that the candidate excels at all levels of teaching including under- and post-graduate courses as well as thesis supervision.

Assistant Professor

Applicants should hold a PhD degree or equivalent and demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses, as well as experience with teaching post-graduate courses as well as thesis supervision. Candidates are expected to be good researchers and should have contributed to the advancement of research internationally.

Lecturer

Applicants should hold an MSc degree or equivalent and demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses.)
